Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the inhibition effects of Prunus mune extract (PME) their mixtures containing green tea extract (GTE) (PME+GTE), Zanthoxylum schinifolium extract (ZCE) (PME+ZCE) on the volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) oral pathogenicity microorganisms.

Methods: The amount of the VSCs and oral microorganism in the mouth of fifteen volunteers who healthy Koreans were measured by Sensor Gas Chromatograph ODSA-P2 (FIS Inc., Hyogo, Japan) and real-time polymerase chain reaction, respectively.

Results: The average concentration of oral VSCs was lower in the PME+GTE and PME+ZCE group, especially, the VSCs in PME+ZEC group was statistically decreased compared to the control group. Among the oral bacteria, Tannerella forsythia was not detected in PME, PME+GTE group after 2 weeks, and Prevotella intermedia was significantly inhibited in each group.

Conclusion: All experimental sample showed the inhibition effects on the oral VSCs, the cause of halitosis, especially, the inhibition effect of PME£«GTE and PME£«ZCE groups were higher than PME group.
